Von Liu Sie, einem anderen großen Literaturkritiker der gleichen Epoche, wird Tao Yüan-ming überhaupt nicht erwähnt. Selbst Tao Yüan-mings Biograph, der Prinz Dschaoming der Liang-Dynastie, zeigte schon durch die quantitative Bevorzugung der Werke anderer Autoren in seiner berühmten ›Anthologie‹ (Wensüen), daß er Tao Yüan-ming als Dichter offenbar weniger hoch einschätzte als zum Beispiel Hsie Ling-yün.
